Chapter 10:

Research

Research can be defined as “the strategic acquisition of information”. Being a good researcher means being aware of what you want your audience to know by the end of your speech. It means understanding the information gap between your knowledge of a given topic and what you need to know in order to communicate your message to your audience. Knowing the proper techniques of research will help to fill that gap in both informative and persuasive speeches. There are three main aspects of the research process: Gathering information, assessing information, and placing information.
