Chapter 14:
Rehearsal
You’ve done your research, written your outline, and figured out what you want to say. There’s only one thing left to do and that’s deliver your speech. This chapter will guide you through the important techniques involved in doing just that as well as highlight key strategies for rehearsing your presentation.
When you make your speech be aware of how you use your body. Movement can work to your advantage, and appropriate gestures can help augment a speech. However, too much movement can serve to distract an audience and signal nervousness that can diminish a speaker’s credibility. Eye contact with the audience is also important if you want your message to connect. Also, the way in which you use your voice can have a great impact on how the audience receives your message. You should be aware of vocal qualities such as pitch, tone, rate, volume, fluency, and articulation when speaking.
